How to speed up uTorrent?

µTorrent or uTorrent is a great way to download files. However, what if torrents are taking much longer to download than you think? Follow these tips below to speed up uTorrent for faster download. If you just get started to torrents, take a look at this guide: How to use torrent.

How to speed up µTorrent?

  1. Check the following criteria

    The number seeders

    After people finish download their files, if they choose to allow others to download it, they will be called Seeders. The more the seeders, the faster the download. So you should select a file with a lot of seeders to max out your connection speed. Remember to choose a reputable resource.

    Wifi interference

    Check your Internet speed to make sure it's stable. If your speeds are really slow, you will need to contact your Internet provider. It's also recommended to connect your device directly to the modem or router instead of using Wifi.

    The number of torrents

    It will take longer for files to finish if you download more than one file at the same time. Try downloading one by one.

    Your version

    Make sure you download the latest version of uTorrent.

    The download speed

    To change the download speed: Double click on the download then change the number on Maximum download speed (or something similar) to 0.0 which means unlimited speed. Then, click OK.

  2. Use faster Torrent Trackers

    When you add new trackers, new seeds and peers will be added also. Hence, you can increase utorrent download speed.

    Open the torrent with uTorrent, begin the download then check the download speed. Right click on the download and select Properties. Find Trackers and paste it. Select OK. Now, wait for other seeders and peers to show up.

  3. Allot more Bandwidth to the Torrent

    Right click on the torrent file that you want to increase the download speed. Hover the mouse pointer over Bandwidth Allocation. Choose High and do the same with the other files you are downloading. However, choose Low instead of High.

  4. Change Bandwidth settings

    Click Options and select Preferences. Then, click Bandwidth in the left column.

    Change the following parameters:

    • Maximum upload rate: 14.
    • Maximum download rate: 1800.
    • Global maximum number of connections: 2329.
    • Maximum number of connected peers per torrent: 257.
    • Number of upload slots per torrent: 14.

  5. Connect directly to the Seeds

    Consider allowing your uTorrent client to receive the data directly without firewall interference. Click Options and select Preferences. Select the Connections tab. Make sure Enable UPnP Port Mapping is checked. This option allows you to avoid the firewall and connect directly with the seeder.
